一、他人正谈话,不在中间插话。
When others are speaking, do not butt in.
二、两人对谈,不向中间穿走。如要走,要客气说借道。
When two people have a conversation, do not walk between them. Say: “excuse me” if it’s the only way to go.
三、不高声喧哗扰乱他人视听。
Do not talk loudly so you would not disturb other people’s audio-visual senses.
四、不横坐,不横腿,不扪脚。
Do not sit with your legs on the arm. Do not sit with one ankle on your knee, and do not keep touching your feet.
五、不隔席谈话。
Do not hold a conversation with someone sitting two seats away from you.
六、坐不翘椅。
Do not sit with your chair tilted.
七、衣帽不加于他人之衣帽上。
Do not place your coat and hat on top of other people’s coats and hats.
八、要离席上卫生间,须打招呼。
Tell the people with whom you have conversation that you go to the bathroom.
九、不向人呵欠,舒伸,咳嗽, 打嗝。
Do not yawn, stretch, sneeze, or hiccup in front of others.
十、不当众抓痒,搔头,抠耳,挖鼻。
Do not scratch head, ears, and tweak ears, nose in front of others.

一、将远行,必辞亲友。抵达,必告平安。
When going on a long trip, you should say farewell to your relatives and friends, and take leave of your parents. Tell them you are safe upon arrival.
二、远到目的地,必先拜访有关人士。
After arriving at your destination, you should first visit those with whom you have relations.
三、归来必谒尊长,亲友,或略送土物。
When you return home, you should visit your relatives and friends and bring them small souvenirs.
四、远行之亲友辞行,必往送行,事前或赠物,或宴请。
When your relatives or friends leave for a distant place, you should send them off, giving a farewell present or invite them to dine with you.
五、远方客来拜访,须往答拜,或设宴接风。
When a guest from afar visits you, you should return the visit or invite him or her to dine with you.

When a traveler returns home and calls upon you, you should return the visit or invite him or her to dine with you.

(七)会客 G: When receiving visitors
一、见先致敬,熟客道寒暄,生客请姓字住址。
Welcome your visitors upon their arrival. Greet your friends warmly when they come. Inquire for the name and home location of the unfamiliar visitors.
二、呼应趋门,为客启阖。
Say: “please come in.” after identifying the visitor, and open the door for them, saying: “ni(shu shu) hao!”
三、每门必让客先行。
Always let the guests walk through the doorway first.
四、入门必为客安座。
When visitors enter the house, invite them to sit down.
五、室内有家人,应与介绍。室内有他客,应与介绍,先介幼于长,介卑于尊,介近于远,同事则介前于后。
If there are guests already in the house, introduce the visitors to each other. Introductions are made in the directions from the young to the old, the junior position to the senior position, the nearer relatives to the more distant relatives, and the less important to the more important friends or colleagues.
六、敬茶果先长后幼,先生后熟。
Offer tea and fruit to senior guests before younger ones and likewise to acquaintances before old friends.
七、主人必下座,举杯让茶。
The host should occupy the less important seating position and invite the guests to drink tea.
八、客去必送致敬,远方客必送至楼外或路口。
When a visitor leaves, you should walk him or her to the door. If the visitor is from a distant place, you should accompany him or her to the street.
九、远方客专来,须备饮食寝室,导厕所,导沐浴。
When guests arrive from a distant place, you should provide food and lodging and inform them the location of the bathroom.

(六)访人 When visiting other people
一、先立外轻轻扣门,主人让入方入。
Stand outside the door knocking gently until the host lets you in.
二、入内有他客,主人介绍,须一一为礼,辞出时亦如此。
If there are other guests inside the house, the host should provide an introduction and you should, in turn, greet them upon entering and say farewell when leaving.
三、入内见有他客,不可久坐;有事,须请主人另至他所述说。
If there are other guests in the house, do not sit long. If you have business to discuss, ask the host politely to move to another location.
四、坐谈时见有他客来,即辞出。
When other guests arrive during the middle of an informal chat, quickly wrap up the conversation and leave.
五、坐立端正,不无精打采,不哗笑。
Sit properly and avoid slouching to hear. Avoid laughing raucously.
六、主人室内之信件,书籍,电脑,概不取看。
Do not look through you host’s letters,books, or computers.
七、谈话应答必顾望,不东张西望,不盯看它物。
Maintain appropriate eye contact when speaking. Avoid peering around or looking at other things.

给家长和同学们的一封信
亲爱的家长们,同学们:
平时都在忙,好不容易有长假,和大家沟通沟通。
大家是否想过语言是如何掌握的?母语和第二语言有什么不同?专家们认为:一是通过“ Acquire”,我们把它翻成“获得”,一是通过“ Learn”,即“学习”。“获得”和“学习”不同,“获得”是潜意识的活动,而“学习”是有意识的行为。
真正的,活的语言是“获得”的。其过程是:必须有 “输入”(input), 即外在的语言环境,才能有“输进”(intake), 即“耳闻”,经过加工,然后“输出”(output)给“输入者”。整个过程是互动的。举个例子:我从来没有读过“月亮代表我的心”这首歌的谱子,也没人教过我,我也没有有意识地学唱过,但是,我听过许多遍。一次学校乐队要我来一段黑管独奏时,我可以熟练地吹出来,还加了一点花音。这说明:有了能让人理解的,有意义的,充足的“input”,听者就会自然而然地“intake”,然后有机地(organically)“output”并“acquire”语言.
“学习”语言就没有那么轻松了。因为没有input,他要单方面地intake语言,知道语言的规则,考虑语言的正确性,然后经过大脑 process,最后 output。人脑是容量有限的信息处理机(capacity limited mechanism),不可能在同一时间同时处理不同的信息。Intake到脑子的语言,在没有完全处理之前,需要较多的时间和较多的精力。一旦熟练以后,处理过程就自动化了。举一个例子来说明:在刚学开车的时候,注意了方向盘就忘了踩刹车,注意了踩刹车,又在慌乱中踩了油门。经过一段时间练习,这些动作都协调得很好,全部自动化了。坐上车以后,要考虑的是要去哪里,走哪条路,其它的开车动作都无须思考。因此,大量的 intake,持续的 process,才会达到某种程度的自动化(automatic processing)。
所以,要学会一种语言,要么有良好的语言环境,要么有大量的练习。然而,要学好一种语言,既要有良好的语言环境,又要有大量的练习。
既然语言环境如此重要,在美国,我们怎么来创造中文语言环境呢?在家说中文是最关键的。父母在孩子成长过程中,大量输入(input)中文,孩子大量输进(intake)。 开始是模仿,积累到一定的程度就可以处理 (process) , 最后输出(output),说出自己的想法。先是和父母讨论家庭生活有关的事,比如:吃什么,买什么,到哪里去玩。当孩子能说流利的“厨房语言”后,就要和孩子谈学校里的事,社会上的事,或要孩子看中文电视新闻,DVD,等。这样才能扩大语言表达的范围。整个过程是潜意识的,“获得”的语言在大脑左半球语言区。这里是自发语言运用系统中心,是语言能力的根本。这些种植基因的事别人无法替代,只有父母才能做。90后的孩子,熟练掌握两种语言是基本的技能。与其让孩子花七年时间和精力在中学和高中去“学习”西班牙文,不如花七年时间让孩子在家从父母那里“获得”中文呢!同时,还能增强亲子之间的关系,何乐不为?
“语言学习”是个有意识的过程,即通过课堂教师讲授,并辅之家庭作业,达到对所学语言的了解和其语法的掌握。“学习”得到的语言虽然在大脑左半球,但不一定在语言区,它还没有达到成为gene的程度,所以它不是语言能力的一部份。它只能在语言输出中起监控作用,特别在写文章时。尽管如此,我们在没有语言环境的时候,只能用这种方法来硬学。其过程是重复的,持续的,要做大量的作业和练习。当初我们为了考“托福”,就是这样苦学的。学习者除了需要有毅力,外向的性格,放松的心情,还要有动力(留美)才能学会。如果没有动力,意志薄弱,性格内向,心理屏障高,再加上不做作业,就很难学会。
说到这里,大家可能明白我的意思了:一是要家长在家多说中文,二是要同学做家庭作业。其实,我还有一个意思:我这个 Compu Chinese School的特点不是向同学提供第二个(家庭是第一个)学中文的语言环境,而是提供中级语言课程,或“应试性语言学习”
要说语言环境,Compu Chinese 每周1.5小时的课根本比不上每周10多小时的课后中文学校。但是,要提高,要应试,Compu Chinese 就能比较合适。
从500班开始,我们在第一堂课用大声朗读,回答问题,电脑听打,来熟悉语言。老师再对语言难点进行讲授,并要同学英译中。我认为:会把两种语言形式,跟一个意义联系起来,对语言学习有很大的帮助。比如:Good! 可以翻成:很好!Great! 可以翻成:好棒!Wonderful! 可以翻成:太好了!incredible! 可以翻成:真是好极了!用同学的母语来理解中文比你光用中文解释要准确得多。
第二堂课看话题广泛的 Video,有经济,交通,地理,建筑,科技,艺术,文化等。其目的是提升同学们用中文阅读话题不同的文章。由于大部份同学的中文还在“厨房语言”的水平,离开“吃喝玩乐”就看不懂了。美国的学生在常识方面比较欠缺,知识面较窄,所以要有意识地和同学们讨论各种问题,让大家接触家庭以外的语料。这些语料积累多了,就会进行语码转换(code switching)。例如:磁悬浮,就是maglev。
第三堂课主要是做练习,500和600做SAT,700和800做AP。一学年可以做三套SAT,或三套AP。通过练习,让同学们了解SAT测题的类型,词汇,语法,惯用法,了解AP的作文类型,结构,以及对话和文化讲演的题材,内容安排,技巧。写作和文化讲演是难度较高的测试,需要较多的练习,所以,另外又安排时间进行模拟测试。AP是用电脑考,Compu Chinese是用电脑教。四年汉字打下来,在速度上,准确度上是可以应付AP考试的。这也是我们学校的特点。
谈这些,是想让大家了解我的想法。

“语言学习”是个有意识的过程,即通过课堂教师讲授,并辅之家庭作业,达到对所学语言的了解和其语法的掌握。“学习”得到的语言虽然在大脑左半球,但不一定在语言区,它还没有达到成为gene的程度,所以它不是语言能力的一部份。它只能在语言输出中起监控作用,特别在写文章时。尽管如此,我们在没有语言环境的时候,只能用这种方法来硬学。其过程是重复的,持续的,要做大量的作业和练习。当初我们为了考“托福”,就是这样苦学的。学习者除了需要有毅力,外向的性格,放松的心情,还要有动力(留美)才能学会。如果没有动力,意志薄弱,性格内向,心理屏障高,再加上不做作业,就很难学会。
说到这里,大家可能明白我的意思了:一是要家长在家多说中文,二是要同学做家庭作业。其实,我还有一个意思:我这个 Compu Chinese School的特点不是向同学提供第二个(家庭是第一个)学中文的语言环境,而是提供中级语言课程,或“应试性语言学习”
要说语言环境,Compu Chinese 每周1.5小时的课根本比不上每周10多小时的课后中文学校。但是,要提高,要应试,Compu Chinese 就能比较合适。
从500班开始,我们在第一堂课用大声朗读,回答问题,电脑听打,来熟悉语言。老师再对语言难点进行讲授,并要同学英译中。我认为:会把两种语言形式,跟一个意义联系起来,对语言学习有很大的帮助。比如:Good! 可以翻成:很好!Great! 可以翻成:好棒!Wonderful! 可以翻成:太好了!incredible! 可以翻成:真是好极了!用同学的母语来理解中文比你光用中文解释要准确得多。
第二堂课看话题广泛的 Video,有经济,交通,地理,建筑,科技,艺术,文化等。其目的是提升同学们用中文阅读话题不同的文章。由于大部份同学的中文还在“厨房语言”的水平,离开“吃喝玩乐”就看不懂了。美国的学生在常识方面比较欠缺,知识面较窄,所以要有意识地和同学们讨论各种问题,让大家接触家庭以外的语料。这些语料积累多了,就会进行语码转换(code switching)。例如:磁悬浮,就是maglev。
第三堂课主要是做练习,500和600做SAT,700和800做AP。一学年可以做三套SAT,或三套AP。通过练习,让同学们了解SAT测题的类型,词汇,语法,惯用法,了解AP的作文类型,结构,以及对话和文化讲演的题材,内容安排,技巧。写作和文化讲演是难度较高的测试,需要较多的练习,所以,另外又安排时间进行模拟测试。AP是用电脑考,Compu Chinese是用电脑教。四年汉字打下来,在速度上,准确度上是可以应付AP考试的。这也是我们学校的特点。

一、衣冠不求华美,但须整洁。
Outfits need not be ostentatious but clean and tidy.
二、见长者,必趋致敬。见幼孩,必夸赞,见青少年,点头为礼。
A show of respect should be given when meeting adults. A praise should be given when meeting a child. Acknowledge the younger ones that you are acquainted with.
三、不高呼,不手指,不招呼。
In a high place, avoid yelling from a distance, pointing, or shouting greetings.
四、路上不嚼食物,不喝饮料,不游荡。
Avoid eating, drinking, and fool around in the streets.
五、让乘客下车后再上车,乘车见长者必让座,
Let the people get off first, then get on the bus. Offer your seat to the elderly while on bus.
六、夜必归家,因事不能归时,必先告家人。
You should come home when it is dark, but if that is not possible you should inform your family members.
七、车马繁杂区,仅招呼敬礼。
Avoid greeting or waving when crossing a busy intersection
八、不立在路上久谈。
Avoid engaging in long conversations on the streets.
九、不走马路中间,越路须先向左右看清,不可与汽车争路。
Avoid walking in the middle of the road. Look carefully both ways before crossing the street, and do not block the road for vehicles.
十、行走时,步履宜稳重,并宜张胸闭口,目向前视。
When walking, step steadily, keep a proper upright posture, close your mouth, and face forward.
十一、遇妇女老弱,尽先让路让座。
Give women, children, and the elderly the right way and priority in seating
十二、途中有人问路,须详为指示;问路于人,须随即称谢。
When others ask for direction, instruct them clearly; When you ask for directions, thank them afterwards.
十三、推购物车时,要注意行人,不要疾行,以防撞人。
Pay attention to the pedestrians when pushing shopping cart. It would be easy to hit people if you push the cart fast.
十四、垃圾要扔到指定地方。
Garbage should be thrown to the designated place.
十五、在舟车上或飞机上,不探首或伸手出窗,并不得随便涕痰。
When riding in a car, boat, or plane, do not stick your head out of the window for a better look, or place your hand outside the vehicle, or spit out the window
